Lifts and queues

Reports say little about queues on the Morzine-Les Gets side: a day visitor on 31 January 2026 found pistes uncrowded and said the Pleney gondola clears the village quickly, and another praised new chairlifts in the Ranfoilly sector.

Ski school and rental

ESF Morzine lists 2026/27 group lessons from age 3, with 6 group lessons for children aged 4 to 12 or adults at 190 euros; private lessons start at 65 euros an hour. The tourism office lists other schools and independent instructors and recommends booking online for school holidays, and names childcare at Les Marmottins nursery and the Club des Piou-Piou.

Ski rental is available in the village; reserve ahead for holiday weeks.

Official ski schools: ESF Morzine.

The lift company lists the Rock the Pistes music festival across the Portes du Soleil from 14 to 21 March 2027.

What travelers report

Based on 13 traveler reports (Feb 2025 to Apr 2026) and the official sources linked on this page. 1 was negative.

What people like

  • Easy access to Avoriaz and the wider Portes du Soleil.
  • The town has plenty of good restaurants, bars and apres.
  • Snow was excellent in January and February 2026, with fresh snow in the village.
  • Runs through the forest are well groomed and uncrowded on good days.
  • The free shuttle buses and short airport transfer make the trip easy.

What people complain about

  • Snow at village level runs thin or soft in March and April, with 6 of 13 reports describing thin, soft or missing snow.
  • Avoriaz holds snow better late in the season, so the local area loses value.
  • There is little off-piste on the local area.
  • Complete beginners face blue runs to reach many bars and restaurants.
  • Some runs near the Morzine gondola were closed or poorly kept on one January visit.

How to do it right

  • Buy the pass online at ski-morzine.com: the 1-day adult Les Gets-Morzine pass is 50 euros online against 56 euros at the cash desk.
  • Choose the Portes du Soleil pass (352 euros for 6 days online) if you want to ski Avoriaz via the Super Morzine lift, especially from March.
  • Book January or the weeks outside the French holidays (19 December 2026 to 4 January 2027 and 6 February to 8 March 2027).
  • Start beginners in the Pleney or Nyon beginner area on the 1-day beginner pass before buying a full pass.
  • Book ESF group lessons online ahead of holiday weeks; 6 adult or child group lessons cost 190 euros in 2026/27.

The trap to avoid

Booking a late March or April week on the Les Gets-Morzine pass alone: the Morzine side closes on 4 April 2027, and late-season reports describe bare or soft snow low down while Avoriaz held good snow.

Why this verdict

Morzine is a depends because the reports split on one thing: snow at village height. The tourism office puts the village center at 1,000 m, and the lift company lists the top of the Les Gets-Morzine area at 2,019 m at the Pointe de Nyon. Of the 13 logged reports, 6 are positive, 6 mixed and 1 negative, and 6 of the 13 describe thin, soft or missing snow somewhere in the Morzine sector. Those complaints cluster in March and early April. A ski news editor in mid March 2026 found no snow in the village and a single run open back to town, and an American skier passing through on 1 April 2026 saw bare ground on the piste into Morzine while Avoriaz and Chatel had excellent snow.

The same season produced the best reports too. A late January 2026 week ended with a standout day after heavy snow, a long-time visitor reported the most snow in the village in 20 years in February 2026, and a German day visitor on 31 January found good snow and uncrowded pistes. So the resort works best in the heart of winter, with a pass that reaches higher ground.

Price helps the case. The official online price for a 6-day Les Gets-Morzine adult pass is 276 euros, and the 6-day Portes du Soleil pass is 352 euros. Passes are free under 5, and the lift company cuts prices from 20 March 2027, which is also when the snow complaints in the log concentrate. Read that discount as a warning as much as a deal.

The skiing

The lift company lists 120 km and 74 runs on the Les Gets-Morzine pass: 4 green, 33 blue, 28 red and 9 black, served by 47 lifts. That mix is why intermediates come out best. Reports describe short to medium runs through forest, well-groomed pistes and a big area to explore. The Super Morzine lift links the village to Avoriaz and the rest of the Portes du Soleil, which the lift company sizes at 600 km.

Experts have less to work with locally. The lift company lists a freeride area with more than 400 m of vertical under the Chamossière chair, and the tourism office describes the 1000D route, 1,000 m of descent from the Pointe de Nyon to the Nyon cable car. Still, one advanced rider found little off-piste in late March, and reports point to Avoriaz for higher snow.

Beginners get two cheap learning areas, at Pleney and Nyon, each with a 1-day beginner pass for about 25 to 27 euros. The catch is what comes next: 4 green runs out of 74, and one beginner warned that many bars sit at the bottom of challenging blue runs. A first-time snowboarder found the gentle slopes fine for learning, which suggests the split depends on how fast you progress.

Getting there and where to stay

The tourism office puts Geneva Airport 55 km away and lists coach links from Geneva, plus bus lines from Thonon-les-Bains and from Cluses, the nearest station at 22 km. In the village, free shuttle buses run several routes, and the tourism office says you do not need a car. The Morzine ski area runs from 19 December 2026 to 4 April 2027, so an April week means heading up to Avoriaz rather than skiing the Morzine side.

Stay in the village center near the Pleney gondola for shops, restaurants and apres, or near the Super Morzine lift if you plan to ski the Avoriaz side most days. Reports praise the town itself: the bars, restaurants and real village feel come up in 4 of the 13 reports, and that also gives non-skiers more to do than in a purpose-built resort. French school holidays run from 6 February to 8 March 2027 across the three zones, and the strongest snow reports in the log come from late January and February.
