Seville in short
Seville is Spain's most complete city break: the [Alcazar](/seville/alcazar-de-sevilla/) and the biggest Gothic cathedral on earth, the lanes of Santa Cruz, and evenings that start late and end later. Nowhere else packages Moorish architecture, tapas culture and [flamenco](/seville/flamenco-show-seville/) this densely, or this warmly.
The caveat is heat and the rules that come with it. July and August are hostile rather than merely uncomfortable, the headline sights need booking ahead, and Holy Week and the April fair push rooms out of reach. The rhythm is late, with dinner starting at nine or later, and the coast sits over an hour away for anyone whose trip needs sand.
Two to three days covers the Alcazar, the cathedral, Santa Cruz and Triana, with [Cordoba](/seville/cordoba-day-trip/) or an [Alhambra](/seville/alhambra-day-trip/) run by fast train when there is more time. March to May and October to November bring warm days and mild evenings, and the flat centre walks easily or bikes well, with the [airport bus](/seville/seville-airport-to-city/) reaching the centre in about thirty-five minutes. It suits travelers who want Moorish architecture without Granada's planning headache, tapas crawls and flamenco in its home city, and long warm nights.
Go if
- The [Alcazar](/seville/alcazar-de-sevilla/), [cathedral](/seville/seville-cathedral/) and Santa Cruz on foot
- Tapas crawls and [flamenco](/seville/flamenco-show-seville/) in its home city
- Moorish architecture without Granada's planning headache
- [Cordoba](/seville/cordoba-day-trip/) and [Alhambra](/seville/alhambra-day-trip/) day trips by fast train
Skip if
- You can only travel in July or August; the heat is dangerous
- You dislike late nights; dinner starts at nine or later
- Beach time is the goal; the coast is over an hour away
- When to go
- March to May and October to November: warm days and mild evenings. Semana Santa and the Feria are spectacular but rooms double; June to September is scorching.
- How long
- 2 to 3 days for the Alcazar, cathedral, Santa Cruz and Triana; add one for Cordoba or an Alhambra run.
- Getting around
- The center is flat and walkable; trams and buses cover the rest and bikes work well. The EA airport bus reaches the center in about 35 minutes (see [Seville airport to city](/seville/seville-airport-to-city/)).
