Is Lech Zürs worth it for a ski trip?

It depends: for confident intermediates, off-piste skiers and families with a generous budget, Lech Zürs delivers the White Ring and all of Ski Arlberg; budget skiers and first-timers pay the same 85 euro day pass for far less.

The verdict in 30 seconds

It depends

It depends: for confident intermediates, off-piste skiers and families with a generous budget, Lech Zürs delivers the White Ring and all of Ski Arlberg; budget skiers and first-timers pay the same 85 euro day pass for far less.

Go if

  • You ski confident blues and reds and want to ski the White Ring circuit
  • You want guided off-piste on one of the Alps' largest linked areas
  • Your budget covers top Austrian prices for passes, lessons and hotels
  • You want a quiet, upmarket village rather than loud après

Skip if

  • It is your first week on skis and you would pay the full 85 euro day pass
  • Value for money decides your trip
  • You want lively après and nightlife
  • You can only travel in early December, when natural snow can be thin

Who it suits

  • Beginners

    It depends

A 48.50 euro practice-lift pass, Sunday and Monday beginner starts at Skischule Lech and nursery slopes in Oberlech exist, but a first-timer pays top prices and uses a small part of the area.

  • Intermediates

    Go

The White Ring gives about 22 km and 5,500 m of descent through four villages, and reports praise the runs around Zürs and Lech, though flat links and long rides to St. Anton annoy some.

  • Experts

    Go

More than 200 km of off-piste and ski routes across Ski Arlberg, which one experienced skier calls outstanding; book a guide, since routes are not regularly groomed.

  • Families

    It depends

Skischule Lech takes children from age 4 in Kinderland and Oberlech puts nursery slopes by the hotels, and a family blog describes a relaxed Christmas, but a 5-day child course is 470 euros on top of high hotel prices.

  • Non-skiers

    It depends

A 7-day Sunshine pass, toboggan run, cross-country trails, winter paths and gourmet restaurants are on offer, but the costs are high for anyone not skiing.

Lifts and queues

The lift company lists 85 lifts across Ski Arlberg. Reports split: one late March skier met almost no queues in Lech, while a three-time visitor calls the Zürsersee and Seekopf chairs dated and the Rüfikopf cabins crammed, and another doubts the Zürs to Lech bus copes in the main season.

Where travelers report queues

  • Trittkopf II at the Flexenbahn junction in Zürs (one report)
  • Rüfikopf cable car from Lech at busy times (one report)
  • Zürsersee and Seekopf chairs above Zürs (one report)
  • The Zürs to Lech bus when the links are closed (two reports)

Ski school and rental

Skischule Lech runs group courses with at least 4 people, from 115 euros a day to 495 euros for 5 days for adults, with an online booking discount on 3 days or more. Beginners start on Sundays or Mondays; Kinderland takes children aged 4 to 13, and small Early Bird Kids groups of up to 5 run in holiday weeks. Most groups meet behind the Oberlech cable car valley station.

The official sites checked do not publish rental prices; the vlog report rented in the village.

Official ski schools: Skischule Lech, Skischule Oberlech, Skischule Zürs.

Where to stay

Lech village

Mostly ski in, ski out1444 m

Restaurants, shops and the Schlegelkopf and Rüfikopf lifts.

The largest base, with most of the guest beds.

Oberlech

Mostly ski in, ski out

Families: nursery slopes and the ski school meeting point near the hotels, reached from Lech by cable car.

Zürs

Mostly ski in, ski out1717 m

A higher, quieter base on the Flexen Pass with the Flexenbahn toward St. Anton.

Apres-ski and off the slopes

Lech Zürs leans toward dining over partying: the tourism office highlights Michelin-starred and Gault Millau restaurants. The vlog report enjoyed the evening atmosphere in Lech, while an experienced skier based in St. Anton describes the area's livelier après as centered there.

Without skis

  • Sunshine pass on selected cable cars for non-skiers (201 euros for 7 days)
  • Lit toboggan run from Oberlech to Lech, 1.2 km
  • 27 km of cross-country trails
  • 40 km of prepared winter hiking paths
  • Skyspace-Lech light installation by James Turrell in Oberlech
  • Horse-drawn sleigh rides

Cost level and crowds

Cost level: Very high

The official adult pass is 85 euros a day and 468 euros for six days in the main season, a 5-day adult group course is 495 euros, and the tourism office counts most beds in four- and five-star hotels; two logged reports call the value poor.

Busiest

  • Christmas and New Year weeks
  • February school holiday weeks

Quieter

  • Wedel weeks, 2 to 18 December 2026, with cheaper passes but thinner early snow in some years
  • Sun ski weeks, 3 to 18 April 2027, with cheaper passes

Dates come from the official lift price periods, not crowd counts. One late March 2026 report found Lech surprisingly quiet.

What it costs

  • Sunshine pass for non-skiers, 7 days, adult: €201 (For guests without ski equipment, on selected cable cars and lifts). Official source, checked Oct 2026.
  • Skischule Lech group course, 1 day, adult: €115 (Minimum 4 people per group; same price for children). Official source, checked Oct 2026.
  • Skischule Lech group course, 5 days, adult: €495 (Online booking discount available). Official source, checked Oct 2026.
  • Skischule Lech group course, 5 days, child: €470 (Children born 2013 or later; online booking discount available). Official source, checked Oct 2026.
  • Skischule Lech private instructor, 1 day, one person: €538 (Up to 5 hours; 43 euros per additional person). Official source, checked Oct 2026.

What travelers report

Based on 12 traveler reports (Dec 2024 to Apr 2026) and the official sources linked on this page. 1 was negative.

What people like

  • The ski routes and off-piste draw the warmest praise from experienced skiers.
  • Late-season visitors found soft snow and few people in Lech.
  • Families describe Oberlech as a relaxed, easy base with lessons and sledding nearby.
  • The runs around Zürs and the Mohnenfluh descents in Lech are singled out as highlights.

What people complain about

  • Two reports, from December 2025 and February 2026, describe thin natural snow, stony routes or brown patches.
  • Flat links, awkward connections and long rides between Lech and St. Anton frustrate some skiers.
  • Prices for passes, huts and food feel poor value to some long-time and repeat visitors.
  • Dated chairs in Zürs, crowded Rüfikopf cabins and a queue at the Trittkopf II junction draw complaints.

How to do it right

  • Buy the Ski Arlberg pass from the official webshop, which opens on 27 November 2026, and collect it at a ticket machine.
  • Ski the White Ring early in the day; it covers about 22 km through Lech, Zürs, Zug and Oberlech.
  • Book a ski guide for off-piste; the area's ski routes are marked but not regularly groomed.
  • Book Skischule Lech group courses online, where the official price list shows a discount on 3 days or more.
  • Use the free local buses between Lech, Oberlech, Zug and Zürs with your pass; the regional buses to the stations charge a fare.

The trap to avoid

Paying 85 euros a day for a beginner: the practice-lift pass is 48.50 euros and covers the terrain a first-timer will use.

Why this verdict

Lech Zürs sells the same Ski Arlberg pass as St. Anton, so the question is what the Lech and Zürs side adds for the money. The official 2026/27 adult pass is 85 euros a day and 468 euros for six days in the main season, the 5-day adult group course at Skischule Lech is 495 euros, and the village is built around four- and five-star hotels. That price only makes sense if you will use the terrain.

The 12 logged reports split along that line. The happiest come from strong skiers and from families who paid for comfort: a family in Oberlech with a private guide, a vlogger who took lessons and went sledding with a child, and a late March skier who found soft snow and almost no queues in Lech. The negative and mixed reports focus on value, snow and the lift links. One guest of 34 years quit over prices and food, and another felt a multi-day pass saved little. Two reports, from December 2025 and February 2026, describe thin natural snow, with stones on Madloch and brown patches under the Rüfikopf, while groomed, snowmade runs stayed good.

The verdict is depends. Go if you ski confident blues and reds or want guided off-piste, and the budget is not the deciding factor. Skip if you are a first-timer paying full price, want loud après or need value for money.

The skiing

The lift company counts 301 km of runs and 85 lifts across Ski Arlberg, with more than 200 km of off-piste and ski routes, and every pass covers the whole area. The local highlight is Der Weisse Ring, a circuit of about 22 km and 5,500 m of descent through Lech, Zürs, Zug and Oberlech, raced each January (16 January 2027 next).

Reports praise the runs around Zürs and the Mohnenfluh descents in Lech, and one experienced skier calls the ski routes and off-piste outstanding. The same reports describe flat linking sections, grooming that is only adequate, dated chairs at Zürsersee and Seekopf, crowded Rüfikopf cabins and a queue at the Trittkopf II junction. Two reports find the link between Lech and St. Anton long or awkward, and one notes that poor conditions can mean a bus between Zürs and Lech. The lift company also states that ticket sales in Lech, Oberlech and Zürs can be limited, with St. Anton tickets then valid on its own lifts only.

Snow depends on timing. A December 2025 report describes thin, demanding early-season snow, while March 2026 reports describe heavy spring snow and soft, enjoyable runs.

Getting there and where to stay

Lech has no railway. The tourism office lists Langen am Arlberg station 17 km away and St. Anton station 20 km away, both with regular buses and taxis, and puts Zurich 200 km and Innsbruck 110 km away, with a daily Arlberg Express bus from Zurich in winter. The local buses between Lech, Oberlech, Zug and Zürs are free with a ski pass; regional lines to Langen and St. Anton charge a fare.

Stay in Lech for the restaurants, shops and the Schlegelkopf and Rüfikopf lifts. Oberlech sits above the village, reached by cable car, and suits families who want the nursery slopes and ski school at the door; the blog report describes it as a village without cars. Zürs, at 1,717 m, is the higher, quieter base, and the Flexenbahn links it toward St. Anton.

Questions

How much is a Lech Zürs lift pass in 2026/27?

Lech Zürs uses the Ski Arlberg pass: 85 euros for 1 day and 468 euros for 6 days for an adult in the main season (19 December 2026 to 2 April 2027). In early December and the April sun ski weeks the prices drop to 80.50 and 395 euros. The lift company marks the prices as provisional and adds a 5 euro chip card deposit.

Is there a Lech Zürs-only lift pass?

No. The lift company states that all ski passes are valid across the entire Ski Arlberg area, which includes St. Anton, Stuben and Warth-Schröcken. It also says ticket sales in Lech, Oberlech and Zürs can be limited, in which case passes sold in St. Anton are valid on its own lifts only.

When is the 2026/27 ski season in Lech Zürs?

The lift company lists 2 December 2026 to 18 April 2027, with limited operation possible at both ends. The Auenfeldjet link to Warth-Schröcken runs only while that area is open, from 4 December 2026 to 11 April 2027.

Is Lech good for children?

Skischule Lech runs Kinderland for ages 4 to 13, with beginners starting on Sundays or Mondays, and group days cost 115 euros. Oberlech, above the village, has nursery slopes and ski school on the doorstep, and one family blog describes a relaxed Christmas there. Costs are high, so budget families get less for the money.

How do you get to Lech without a car?

Take the train to Langen am Arlberg (17 km) or St. Anton (20 km), then a regional bus or taxi, per the tourism office. In winter the Arlberg Express bus runs daily from Zurich, about 200 km away. Local buses inside Lech Zürs are free with a ski pass.
