Nice / The verdict

Is the French Riviera Pass in Nice worth it?

The 24-hour pass at EUR 30 breaks even at about two or three paid sights, such as the open-top bus (EUR 24) plus one museum, or the Cap Ferrat villas plus the Eze garden. Public transport is not included, and a museum-only plan is cheaper on the EUR 15 municipal pass, so this is a calculation, not an automatic buy.

The Nice story

Nice is the Riviera's easy answer: the Promenade des Anglais curving along the Baie des Anges, an Italianate old town behind the market at Cours Saleya, art collections that put [Matisse](/nice/matisse-museum-nice/) and Chagall in one city, and a coastal train placing [Monaco](/nice/monaco-day-trip/), [Antibes](/nice/antibes-day-trip/), Cannes and Eze inside day-trip range. It is a real city rather than a resort strip, so evenings belong to locals as much as visitors.

The verdict in 30 seconds

It depends

The 24-hour pass at EUR 30 breaks even at about two or three paid sights, such as the open-top bus (EUR 24) plus one museum, or the Cap Ferrat villas plus the Eze garden. Public transport is not included, and a museum-only plan is cheaper on the EUR 15 municipal pass, so this is a calculation, not an automatic buy.

Go if

  • Visitors who will stack the open-top Grand Tour bus (EUR 24) with a museum or villa inside the same 24 hours
  • Day-trippers to Cap Ferrat, Beaulieu and Eze, where Villa Ephrussi, Villa Kerylos and the Eze garden add up to EUR 43 at full prices
  • Anyone who wants one PDF e-ticket instead of booking each site separately

Skip if

  • Your plan is only Nice's municipal museums, since nine of them share a EUR 15 four-day pass
  • You are traveling with children, because under-18s enter every municipal museum free and the pass has one price for all ages
  • You mainly need transport, since buses, trams and trains are excluded and cost extra

Based on 1 traveler reports (Jul 2025 to Jul 2025) and the official sources linked on this page. 0 were negative.

What people like

  • A forum poster who had visited Nice museums said that, with so many to see, buying a pass may be beneficial.

How to do it right

  • Buy online on the official site and expect a PDF e-ticket within about an hour, or buy at one of the sales outlets listed there.
  • Think in hours: validity is consecutive from first use, so a 24h pass first used at 2pm on Saturday runs to 2pm on Sunday.
  • Check each activity's description before activating, since the pass site says some guided tours and workshops must be booked in advance.
  • Budget transport on top: buses, trams and trains are excluded; only the Grand Tour bus and the tourist train are covered. Add a Lignes d'Azur day ticket (EUR 7) or the SudAzur Explore pass (EUR 35 for 3 days).
  • Compare the EUR 15 municipal pass first if museums are the whole plan, and check closures: Matisse is shut late September to 20 October 2026.

The trap to avoid

Buying it for a museums-only itinerary. Nine Nice municipal museums, including Matisse and Massena, share a EUR 15 four-day pass and under-18s enter all of them free, so a museum-heavy trip rarely needs the EUR 30-a-day card.

What to do instead

Why this verdict

The pass pays off fast, but only for a certain kind of day. At EUR 30 for 24 hours, the open-top Grand Tour bus alone costs EUR 24 and the Matisse Museum EUR 12, so EUR 36 bought separately against EUR 30 on the card. A day of Villa Ephrussi (EUR 18), Villa Kerylos (EUR 15) and the Eze exotic garden (EUR 10) comes to EUR 43 at full prices, or EUR 34 using the on-site combined villa ticket. Wander the promenade and the free viewpoints instead and the card loses.

The counterweight is the museum trap. Nine Nice municipal museums share a EUR 15 four-day pass and under-18s enter all of them free, so a traveler doing only Matisse, Massena and their neighbors should buy that pass or nothing. Two more gaps matter: no buses, trams or trains are included, so transport stays extra, and a single paid sight a day never reaches the card price. Only one usable traveler account is logged for this page, a forum reply saying a pass may be beneficial with so many museums to see, so this verdict rests on official prices rather than on traveler reports.

Timing and tickets

Buy on the official site or at a sales outlet, and think in hours, not days: a card first used at 14:00 runs to 14:00 the next day. Some guided tours and workshops must be booked ahead, and Matisse is closed late September to 20 October 2026. Each site admits the pass once, and the price is the same for every age.

Questions

Does the French Riviera Pass include public transport?

No. Buses, trams and trains are excluded. The pass covers only the Nice Le Grand Tour double-decker bus (unlimited for 24 hours) and the Nice Tourist Train. The pass FAQ lists add-ons: Lignes d'Azur at EUR 7 for one day, EUR 13 for two and EUR 20 for seven, or SudAzur Explore at EUR 35 for 3 days.

Is there a child price for the French Riviera Pass?

No, the pass FAQ says passes are sold at a single price. Under-18s enter Nice's municipal museums free, which makes a child's card hard to justify for a museum plan.

How does the 24, 48 or 72 hour validity work?

Validity is consecutive from first use: a 24-hour pass first used at 2pm on Saturday is valid until 2pm on Sunday. Each included site admits the pass once.

Do I need to give my name when I buy it?

You give the beneficiary's name when buying, and it appears on the e-ticket, but the FAQ says the all-inclusive pass is non-nominative. Each person needs their own pass.

Do some activities need booking ahead?

Yes. The pass FAQ says some guided tours and workshops must be booked in advance, and each activity description says whether that applies. The pass does not make those bookings for you.

Is the pass the same as the municipal museum pass?

No. The EUR 15 municipal pass covers nine city museums over four days. The French Riviera Pass adds the Grand Tour bus, the tourist train and sites beyond Nice, at EUR 30, 45 or 65.
