Ljubljana / The verdict
Is the Ljubljana Card worth it?
Depends on the itinerary: the official page prices the card at EUR 41 for 24 hours, EUR 49 for 48 and EUR 54 for 72. Stacking the guided tour, the castle and a couple of paid sights clears the price, while a day of bridges, market and riverfront walking does not.

The Ljubljana story
Ljubljana may be the easiest capital in Europe to like: a riverside old town closed to cars, a [castle](/ljubljana/ljubljana-castle/) on the hill above it, dragon-guarded bridges and Plecnik colonnades, and embankment cafes that fill as the evening comes on. The center fits inside a twenty-minute walk, and the whole of western Slovenia sits close enough for day trips.

It depends
Depends on the itinerary: the official page prices the card at EUR 41 for 24 hours, EUR 49 for 48 and EUR 54 for 72. Stacking the guided tour, the castle and a couple of paid sights clears the price, while a day of bridges, market and riverfront walking does not.
Go if
- You plan the guided city tour, the castle and the urban train, whose official prices add up to more than the 24-hour card.
- You are staying two or three days and will add a zoo or museum visit, as the logged family did over 72 hours.
- You travel with children: the card has a child price of EUR 26, 31 or 35 for ages 6 to 14.
- You like paying once instead of weighing each ticket, a benefit the logged family named as the biggest plus.
Skip if
- Your plan is bridges, the market, the riverfront and free views, which have no ticket to offset.
- You only want 24 hours: one logged forum member called the 24-hour card kind of worthless.
- You expect the bus pass to matter: the same member found the transport benefit limited in a walkable city.
- You plan to skip the river cruise, which that member said was not worth taking.
Does the pass pay for itself?
The pass costs €54 (official price, checked Oct 2026) and includes: Free entry to 30+ attractions, one visit each, including Ljubljana Castle, the river cruise, the guided city tour, the National Gallery and the Chocolarium guided tour with a tasting, Unlimited rides on LPP city buses for the card's validity, validated on every boarding, Starts on first use of any included service, not at purchase, Children aged 6 to 14 pay a lower price; children under 6 usually enter free, Not included: repeat visits to the same attraction.

- Match validity to your stay: EUR 41 for 24 hours, EUR 49 for 48 or EUR 54 for 72, with ages 6 to 14 at EUR 26, 31 or 35.
- Pre-book the guided city tour by email, as the official page asks cardholders to do, and call ahead for a Plecnik House tour slot.
- Do not activate in advance: the card starts on its first use of any included service.
- Show the QR code or card at the cash desk to get your ticket, and validate it on every LPP bus boarding.

The trap to avoid
Buying the card for a trip of free walking. The official prices start at EUR 41, and a plan of bridges, the market and the riverfront has no tickets to offset it. The reverse trap is a short stay: one logged forum member called the 24-hour version kind of worthless and thought the value showed up with the 72-hour card.
What to do instead
Why this verdict
The verdict is depends, on a thin log of three first-hand reports plus the official price pages.
The official page prices the card at EUR 41 for 24 hours, EUR 49 for 48 and EUR 54 for 72, with child prices of EUR 26, 31 and 35 for ages 6 to 14. The math is easy to run. The guided Historical City Centre and Castle tour is EUR 22.04 and includes the return funicular, a castle ticket without the funicular is EUR 15, and the urban train is EUR 12.72. Those three add up to EUR 49.76, which is above the 24-hour price. Add the zoo at EUR 11.50 and the City Museum at EUR 10 and a three-day plan reaches EUR 71.26 against EUR 54.
The reports agree with that split. A mother who took two children aged 7 and 9 through 11 museums in three days paid EUR 124 for one adult and two child cards and calls the card a very good decision. She names the biggest plus as no longer weighing the ticket at every museum, though she rated the zoo 2 out of 5. A traveler’s day log shows the cruise, the tourist train and a museum return on one card.
The cautions come from a forum member who had just been in the city. The member compares the card to a gym membership, calls the 24-hour version kind of worthless, finds the transport benefit limited in such a walkable city and says the river cruise can be skipped.
Timing and tickets
Buy online for a QR code and no advance activation: the clock starts on first use. Cardholders pre-book the city tour by email, and the official page recommends calling ahead for Plecnik House. Each included attraction admits you once, and the City Museum is closed on Mondays.
The short version
Buy the card for a packed plan of tour, castle, train and museums, ideally on the 72-hour version. Skip it for a stay of bridges, the market and the riverfront.
