What to skip in Santorini

Only if it fits your trip
- Are Santorini's red and black beaches worth it?: Depends: the black beaches at Perissa, Perivolos and Kamari are genuine, organized beach days on dark volcanic grit, reached by cheap buses, while the famous Red Beach has been closed to land access since the February 2025 rockfall and is now a look from a boat or the cliff path rather than a swim stop. Match your expectations to pebbles, sunbeds that come free with a drink, and scenery over soft sand.
- Is the Oia sunset worth the crowds?: It depends: one writer still says go, especially on a first visit, but every account describes packed viewpoints, so arrive at least an hour early or take the same sky from a quieter spot.
- Is the Santorini volcano and hot springs tour worth it?: Depends on what you want from it: the crater walk is the draw, and the springs are a swim from the anchored boat that one logged report found cold.
